Hello Community Partner,

The coronavirus pandemic has further highlighted the challenges facing the Coachella Valley’s most economically disadvantaged communities. The lack of stable housing, clean water, reliable transportation, and accessible healthcare were problems long before this current crisis, and they will remain problems long after if systemic issues are not addressed.

Alianza has always worked with long-term solutions in mind. We are seeing progress, but faster action is needed so that new policies can benefit the people living here now, not just people living here a generation from now.

Of course, the immediate needs of struggling families are most important, which is why we’re partnering with other nonprofits to deliver food to those who need it. But this food is a short-term fix. We also need to be taking steps that will better protect families in the long run.

Some policy approaches we believe would help disadvantaged Coachella Valley communities long-term include:

A stronger safety net: Expand healthcare and cash assistance programs, making them accessible to all.

Communications infrastructure: Bring high-speed broadband internet access to low-income and rural areas, boosting educational outcomes and economic opportunities.

Economic diversity: Create incentives to diversify the economy around the Salton Sea so residents can move into higher-paying jobs and build careers.

2020 has brought new issues to face, but we remain committed to building a Coachella Valley where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Thank you and be well.
